Now for the 2nd day of my Ondoy experience. Sunday.
My dad woke me up at around 11am. He must have known that I wasn't able to sleep early, otherwise he would have wakened me up earlier like my brothers. Hehe When I went to peek downstairs, there was no more water inside the house. Mud has replaced the water, but half of it was already washed away since they already started cleaning in the morning. The sala set was covered in mud, as with the piano, which was on its back on the floor.
I didn't want to get in the mud, nor did I want to sort the stuff we took from the 1st floor, so I said I'd cook rice for lunch at the rooftop (hehehe). I went upstairs and tried to work the stove and encountered a problem - we ran out of LPG. I reported this to my mom and she said we just had to eat bananas (we had ample supply of bananas which my dad brought home from the province just last week). My younger brother who didn't want to eat bananas for lunch said that we should cook using wood. I wasn't thrilled with the idea of having bananas for lunch so I pushed the idea of my younger brother. Good thing he have a burner tripod big enough to hold a pot. We also found an old, small wooden cage at the rooftop. This we used for the fire. We placed the paper and the wood in a small
banga which was sized just right for the tripod (we didn't want to dirty the rooftop tiles hehe).
After consuming a considerable amount of paper, wood, and time (after like... 30 minutes??? hahaha), we at last had a semi-stable fire. We started cooking rice and after like an hour, we had cooked rice. Yehey! Cooking was longer than usual since the fire was in constant danger of being extinguished (hey we're not used to cooking by wood. :p). So we did not have bananas for lunch. We ate the leftover adobo from Saturday night. Cooking success! Hehehe
I was finally able to call Argel using my mother's phone with my simcard after eating. It was great to hear that he was ok, and that other friends were ok. I wasn't able to update anyone else with my situation since my contacts were on my phone memory and it was only Argel's number that I can recall from memory. Hahaha
And so it was back to cleaning. Water supply was low - water from the faucet was more than just a trickle - so it was a bit difficult to clean the things that were caked in mud. We tried cleaning until sunset, by this time, some of the streets in our village were covered in mud rather than the murky flood waters.
Dinner time again. We ate leftover rice from lunch since we just had enough wood to fry hotdogs and boil water for drinking. I tried to go online for 30 minutes after dinner using my dad's laptop and Smart Bro mobile, but the connection kept getting disconnected. Still, I was able to send IMs to some of my friends, and I was able to update my Facebook status. Hehe
Sleep came early to me this time (maybe around 11pm), but I woke up at around 3am and was able to go to sleep at around 5am only. My dad woke me up again at 10:30am.
The rest of the day was spent cleaning what could be cleaned with so little water. We were finally able to pull the piano upright today. Lunch was chicken kuya bought (it took him 3 hours to buy water and chicken for lunch - haba raw ng pila). At 4pm, I left the house to go to the office. And I am still here and will be here until 5am. :D
Ayun. That's all for my Ondoy experience. I know there are others whose situations are worse than mine, but I just wanted to share (and to document) the experience.
