Me: Good evening! My name is Elma, and I'm Computer Engineering graduate from the University of the Philippines. :D
Guy: Hello. My name is Blank.
M: Really? Is that your real name?
G: Yes.
M: Ok... Do you have a last name?
G: Yes, I have a last name. It is Obama.
M: Obama. That's interesting...
G: And my middle name is mumble-mumble.
(I didn't understand what he said. It sounded like Green or Girini. something like that).
M: I'm sorry. Will you repeat that please? I couldn't quite understand what you said.
G: Girini.
(I still didn't understand. T_T)
M: So your name is Blank Girini Obama...
G: Yes that is right.
M: O-k... So... what is your work Blank?
G: Ahhhh... It is a secret. I cannot tell.
M: But why?
G: Because it is a secret.
M: O-k... What about your previous job? Can you tell me about that?
G: Oh yes. Before, I was a sumo wrestler.
M: Wow that's great! I've always wanted to talk about sumo wrestling, but I don't think the other students are interested in sumo wrestling.
G: Oh really?
M: Yes! So you must be a big guy since you were a sumo wrestler before...
G: Not really...
M: Really? But aren't sumo wrestlers usually big, big people?
G: Yes, but not me. I'm different.
M: Oh really? Hmm... Did you win in your sumo bouts?
G: No...
M: Awww... That's sad... Maybe because you're not a big guy.
G: I don't know...
M: Is sumo wrestling still popular in Japan?
G: Yes, it still is.
M: I see... Hmm... Why don't you tell me more about sumo wrestling?
G: Well... The referee wears colorful costumes.
M: Colorful costumes?
G: Yes. And then there are two players inside a circle.
M: How does one win in sumo wrestling?
G: You have to force the other player out of the circle.
M: Ohhh... And can you use your feet in the game? I mean, can you kick the other player out?
G: No no no. You use hands only.
M: And how big is the circle?
G: About... 5 meters across.
M: Oh... Ok. Uhh... What do you call the underwear that sumo wrestlers use?
G: Oh! Those are called mawashi.
M: Mawashi...
G: Yes. Mawashi. I'm actually wearing one right now.
M: Really?
G: Yes.
M: Why? Do you have a sumo fight today?
G: No. I wear it because it is comfortable.
M: O-k...
G: Actually, a lot of Japanese wear mawashi because it is so comfortable.
M: I didn't know that...
G: So now you know.
M: Yeah... Hmmm... So you were a sumo wrestler before... What do you do now?
G: Now I'm a mumble-mumble player.
M: A what?
G: mumble-mumble player.
M: I'm sorry, I don't understand. Will you type that for me please?
(Guy types. I receive "gateball player")
M: Oh! Gateball! I see... What is gateball?
G: I will show you.
(Guy gives me a link to a pic. The picture is of a group of people playing gateball. The game looks very similar to croquet. The people in the picture wore shirts with numbers, and they also wore hats.)
M: Ohhhh... so this is a gateball game.
G: Yes. I am number 7 in the picture.
M: Number 7?
(I look at the person wearing the 7 shirt, and it is a small, old woman.)
M: So this is what you look like! Is this really you?
G: Yes. I am not liar.
M: You are not a liar...
G: Yes. I am not a liar.
M: Ohhhh... So this is why you didn't win any sumo bouts! Because you are so thin!
G: No no no. I was bigger. That was after my diet.
M: After your diet?
G: Yes. I went on a diet. I ate only grasshoppers.
M: Grasshoppers? are they delicious?
G: Yes. Very much. Actually right now, I'm in a restaurant.
M: Oh really?
G: Yes. And I ordered mumble-mumble.
M: I'm sorry. Will you type that again for me please? I don't think I know the food you are talking about.
G: Ok.
(Guy types again. I receive "crocket")
M: Crocket? What's a crocket?
G: You don't know crocket?
M: No...
G: I will show you.
(Guy gives me another link. I open it and it is a picture of an insect much like a grasshopper I think. I didn't look at it very long because it is ewwwwwy. Hahaha maarte ba?)
M: Ewww! You eat this?
G: Yes. It is for my diet.
M: Ewwwwww! Really? Is it delicious?
G: Yes.
M: How is this cooked? Is it fried or do you eat it raw?
G: Uhh... fried?
M: O-k... Why? Why in the world would you want to eat that thing?
G: For my diet. It is very healthy.
M: O-k...
G: What about you? are you on a diet?
M: Me? No! Actually, I'm trying to gain weight.
G: Gain weight? Why? Are fat girls popular in the Philippines?
M: Hahahaha. Uhhhh... I don't think so... I think the male population here prefer slim girls to the not-so-slim girls.
G: Then why are you trying to get fat?
M: Not really get fat. I just want to put on some weight because I think I'm too thin for my height.
G: Oh... You are thin?
M: Yes, I think I'm thin.
G: Oh, I can hear a dog bark.
M: Yes, that's our neighbor's dog. Maybe a car passed by their house, that's why the dog barked.
G: I have pets too.
M: Really? What kind of pets?
G: Cockroaches.
M: Cockroaches?!
G: Yes, I have 3 cockroaches.
M: Why cockroaches?
G: I just found them in my house and I decided to take them as pets.
M: I see... what are their names?
G: Strawberry, Mango, and... Eruma.
M: Those are pretty names. Why did you name one Strawberry?
G: Well, when I saw her, I was eating a strawberry.
M: Ohhh... I see. So you named the other one Mango because you were eating a mango when you saw the cockroach?
G: Yes.
M: And why did you name the other one Eruma?
G: Because when I saw Eruma, I was watching Sesame Street.
M: Ohhhh... and Elmo was there so you named her after him.
G: Yes.
M: How did you know the cockroach was a girl? Why didn't you name the cockroach Erumo?
G: I thought the cockroach was a lesbian, that's why I named her Eruma, not Erumo.
M: How did you know she was a lesbian?
G: She was touching the other cockroaches.
M: O-k... Well... Those are pretty names for cockroaches...
G: Yes... Do you know what watermelons are?
M: Yes, of course!
G: Have you seen a cubic watermelon?
M: No, I haven't seen one.
G: I will show you.
(Guy gives me yet another link. Picture shows cubic watermelons.)
M: Wow... cubic watermelons. Do these watermelons taste the same as the spherical ones?
G: Yes. Same taste. But they are grown differently. People put them in boxes to give the shape.
(Then I notice that the time is almost up.)
M: Oh... Look at the time! It's almost time to say goodbye.
G: Oh yeah.
M: Well... I enjoyed our weird conversation tonight. I think you have heard this from your other tutors as well.
G: Oh yeah... But I'm not liar.
M: No, you are not a liar.
G: Yes, I'm not.
M: Ok Blank, I hope to talk to you again sometime!
G: Yeah, me too.
M: Goodnight, and bye!
G: Thank you and byebye!
M: Thank you too! Bye!

Artistahing Argel
Seryoso kayo dun? Naku matutuwa yun pag nalaman niya. :D
Auntie Susa: Oo, akala ko artista. Akala ko kasi kung sinong idol mong artista yung pinicturan mo tapos nilagay mo diyan eh.
Ako: XD

DOST Trip
Went to DOST for Kuya's clearance this afternoon. I didn't want to drive to Bicutan alone so I rode public utility vehicles.
The one and a half hour ride from Cubao to Bicutan made me realize how lucky I am that UP is just 20 to 30 minutes away from our house. I just can't imagine uwian ako everyday with more than an hour of travel... or even the weekly 2-hour or 3-hour rides to and from provinces... Sheeesh... Napagod ako sa kauupo. What made the ride even worse was there were bugs sa bus! As in. It was crawling with bugs... sa seat, sa window...
Ayun. That was the bus ride.

Guard: Ahh... ang tangkad mo ah. Pwede ka sa mga beauty contest. Sumali ka ba sa mga ganun?
Ako: Ay hindi po eh. :D
Guard: Ay sayang. Hindi mo hilig yung mga ganun no?
Ako: Hindi nga po. :D
Guard: Sayang. Pwede yung height mo dun eh.
Ako: Hehe

Despidida
Tuesday morning:
When Argel and I arrived home last night...
Tomorrow is Spain day! :((
Mami: O, wala bang pa-despidida si Argel?A few minutes later...
Me: Wala eh.
Thinking it was supposed to be a family dinner with Argel, I didn't invite anyone else.
Me: Sige! :D
When Argel and I arrived home last night...
Mami: Asan mga bisita niyo?Pagpasok sa bahay, nakita namin ang mesa. Maraming food. Spaghetti, chicken, pork chop, pancit, fruit salad turned buko salad, plus yung binili ni Argel na ice cream.
Me: Ha? Bakit?
Busog kami. :p

O Evil Me*
I saw Bananie with a load of big boxes at the EEE lobby. It looked like she needed help so I offered to carry some of the boxes. She gladly accepted my help.
*Wala lang akong maisip na title. ;)
Me: San 'to dadalhin? :DSuddenly, the cover of the top-most box I was holding flew open, and sitting inside was the biggest frog I have ever seen.
Bananie: Sa CNL. :D
Me: Ang bigat ah. Anong laman?
Me: (scared to death) I-it's a frog...Syempre hindi talaga nangyari yan. Panaginip lang a few nights ago. Pero weird kasi. Haha Dream interpretations, anyone?
Bananie: :D
Me: OMG Just one jump and it's gonna gobble me up. If I die because of this frog, I swear I'm going to haunt you...
Bananie: Ok lang. I don't believe in ghosts. :D
Me: (still scared to death) I didn't believe in giant frogs either until I saw this thing!
Bananie: You mean Trevor? :D
Me: Trevor? This thing has a name?!
Bananie: (big laugh)

:D
I was trying to download the newest version of TinyOS CVS when an IM window popped up bearing a yahoo id I didn't recognize. These were the messages that were first sent:
My brother has been playing Eheads' Fruitcake over and over for the whole day. Parang awitan ulit... Siguro nami-miss niya yung mga tao.
I can't download the TinyOS CVS or whatever it's called.
cvs [login aborted]: connect to cvs.sf.et(66.35.250.207):2401 failed: No route to host
Frustrating. But I still remember my chat with Kurt and that makes me laugh so... di naman ako masyado inis ngayong gabi.
cuttino_3: hello! The yahoo id was not in my list of friends so I immediately replied with:
cuttino_3: u are...?
eLMa: er...Hohoho... I didn't even bother to check if it was someone I knew before replying. Stupid me.
eLMa: i don't know you either
eLMa: haha
cuttino_3: nyaks!....huhuhu...And when I finally looked at the yahoo profile...
eLMa: ahh
eLMa: haha
cuttino_3: hehehe....ECE sa UP ka?
eLMa: coe po
eLMa: :D
eLMa: ahahaIt was Kurt, the friendly guy from DLSU! Yeah, I remember meeting him sa squEEEze 2004. Haha Nakakahiya. At friend ko pa siya sa friendster. Hahaha Ayun. We chatted for a while. Natawa lang talaga ako dahil dun sa 'i don't know you either' kasi kilala ko pala siya. Hahaha
eLMa: you're kurt!
eLMa: :D
cuttino_3: oic!... :)
eLMa: haha sorry
eLMa: :D
cuttino_3: yah im kurt! hahaha.. :))

Haha
One of my kabarkadas from high school is working as an accountant somewhere in Makati. Yesterday morning, he called me from work, and he was complaining about the silence in the office. Our conversation went something like this:
Something like this also happened years ago when I borrowed his cellphone. A common friend called him on his phone and I answered for him. After talking for a while, I absent-mindedly held his phone over his left ear saying, "O, ikaw na raw kakausapin." He said, "Ano ka ba? Wala akong maririnig diyan!"
Haha sana hindi na maulit.
My friend: Nababagot na ako dito. Ang tahimik. The funny thing is, he only has one ear. His left ear is deformed and he can't hear with it. I totally forgot about this. What was I thinking?! Hahaha
Me: Eh di makinig ka ng music sa pc.
My friend: Kung pwede lang eh no?
My friend: ...
Me: Ay! Hahahaha Oo nga pala. Sorry!

Huwat?!
I thought my sem was over. Ooooh how wrong I was. I just got news today that the 3rd exam for EE225 will still push through. But it's my fault, really. I mean... since the finals week is over, I just assumed that there won't be a 3rd exam anymore. Haaay... I hope Sir Marc remembers what he said - that it will be a take home test.

I hate it when I have a cough and/or a cold because it's difficult for me to breathe - maybe because of my asthma. And laughing makes breathing even harder for me to do. Just a little while ago, Liz called and we talked over the phone and I laughed and laughed and laughed (kasi naman nakatatawa kinukwento niya di ba?) and now I'm having a very difficult time breathing. Laughter is not the best medicine in my case.

Me: Oo.
Peyt: Bakit?
Me: Ewan. Tanong mo sa kanya. Haha
Peyt: Eh.

Of Many Things
Concert
I (sort of) volunteered to be one of the marshals for Fresh to Play! - a concert for the UPD freshmen held last Friday at the Bahay ng Alumni (making it my bahay, bahay ni Teejay, bahay ni Fil, bahay ng lahat ng graduates ng UP hahaha). Riley, Norman, and I were stationed at the freshie entrance. Our job was to check the Form5's of the freshies entering the venue, and also to verify if they are indeed the owners the Form5's they were presenting if ever they looked suspicious - and by that i mean goon-looking (don't know what a goon is? Click here). There were a lot of people - specifically jologs - pretending to be freshmen, showing photocopies of Form5's to enter for free, but in reality were outsiders who wanted to get in for reasons I don't know. But I am pretty sure seeing the bands perform is not one of those reasons. More likely for cellphone snatching - if I'm not mistaken, two snatched cellphones were retrieved by the police. The Form5 verification process went something like this:
That was just one of their tactics in entering the concert hall. Other strategies were: 1 - may tiket ako pero nabura na yung tatak sa kamay ko, 2 - may Form5 ako pero nabura na yung tatak sa kamay ko, 3 - ito po ang band stiker ko (and then shows a 'Barbie Almalbis' sticker on his shirt)... creative eh?
Bouncers
It was my first time to see and talk with bouncers up close, and they said some pretty interesting things. Did you know that bouncers also do stunts? Yeah, apparently, they are stuntmen too, appearing in tv series like Panday. The next time you see big men - with arms as big as your legs wielding a sword or a knife or whatever weapon - in a local show, there's a chance that you can see them in a bar too, they could be bouncers.
Accident
Kuya came home this morning with a dirty shirt. He said he slipped, but he broke the fall with his arm. The result: a shirt with some mud and an arm that hurts. His arm hurts so much that he decided to go to the doctor to have it checked. The result of the x-ray will be out by Monday. For the meantime, the doctor ordered him to wear a sling. I took about 10 minutes to put the sling on him. I know - I'm not fit to be a nurse. Haha
Wicked
Yay! We finally have mp3s of songs on the Wicked soundtrack. :D I first heard Wicked songs when I was at Kiko's house when we were working on the Squeeeze 2006 poster.

Goon-looking freshie: Opo.
Riley: Sige. Anong cource mo?
Goon-looking freshie: CHK po.
Riley: Ha? Course, hindi college.
Me: (laugh)
Riley: Eh ano ngayon?
Me: (big laugh)
Goon-looking freshie: Po?
Riley: Anong mga araw ng EnviSci1 class mo?
Goon-looking freshie: Ah TF.
Riley: Mali.
Goon-looking freshie: MTh pala.
Me: (bigger laugh)
(Riley then makes a sign to our friendly neighborhood bouncers and they make him leave)
